UGS facilities in Ukraine store 15.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas

JSC Ukrtransgaz reports that as of early June, the gas level in the Ukrainian underground storage facilities reached 15.5 billion cubic meters. This is 22% higher on average for this date over the past five years. The share of stock made by foreign companies is gradually decreasing. Now non-residents own 4.4 billion cubic meters of gas, according to the press service.

Since the beginning of the injection season during May 2021, 0.33 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been supplied to underground gas storage facilities in Ukraine. This is four times less than in May 2020. This year the injection season started 50 days later than last.

As of June 1, 2021, foreign traders store 4.4 billion cubic meters in the Customs warehouse mode. This is 2.1 times more than in the same period last year. Of these, 3.3 cubic meters were accumulated in the short haul mode.

Resident companies store 0.53 cubic meters in the Customs warehouse mode, which is 2.5 times less than in the same period in 2020. Of these, the volume of gas injected into the UGS facility in the short haul mode is equal to 0.46 billion cubic meters.

“We started the pumping season into Ukrainian UGS facilities at a low rate. Gas prices hit record highs in May, and gas traders are “on hold” in anticipation of better bids to build up reserves. Taking into account these market trends, in May we strengthened our modernization programs, in particular, we are carrying out work that requires significant restrictions or suspension of the gas injection process. Thus, we will use the opportunity to improve the reliability of UGS equipment during the heating season 2021/2022," Director General of Ukrtransgaz Serhii Pereloma.

As a reminder, Ukrtransgaz will repair the equipment of two UGS facilities worth UAH 40 million.
