Donald Trump is preparing the latest sanctions package against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The US State Department has informed European companies involved in the construction of the pipeline about the risk of new sanctions. UNIAN reported this with reference to Reuters.
“We try to educate companies about the risks and convince them to abandon this case before it's too late,” a source in the US government said on condition of anonymity.
According to him, on Thursday or Friday, the State Department will publish a report on the companies, which, in his opinion, help the pipeline from Russia to Germany. The document may include companies that are involved in insurance, laying a subsea pipeline and project verification.
The insurance group Zurich Insurance Group may be subject to sanctions. Agency sources indicate that European companies have received inquiries from the State Department regarding their role and in the construction of the pipe in recent months.
Earlier it was reported that the Akademik Cherskiy pipelayer left the completion zone of the Nord Stream 2.
