United States approved the draft sanctions against the Nord Stream 2

The US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations approved a bill that would impose sanctions on companies and individuals involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. It is reported by the Europeyska Pravda with reference to the American journalist Josh Rogin.

“The bill on imposing sanctions on companies on the deep-water pipelines that are building the Russian Nord Stream 2 project has been approved by the Committee with 20 votes to 2”, he wrote on his Twitter.

The bill on the protection of energy security in Europe must pass both the Senate and the House of Representatives and be signed by President Donald Trump in order to become law.

The bill, which Republican Ted Cruz has registered, provides for restrictive measures against ships laying the gas pipeline and the companies that own them.

In particular, this applies to two companies that have contracts for laying pipes for Nord Stream 2: Swiss Allseas and Italian Saipem.

It is also proposed to increase pressure on Gazprom and its five Nord Stream 2 partner companies: Uniper and Wintershall from Germany, British-Dutch Shell, OMV from Austria and Engie from France.

Under the draft law, all vessels that lay pipes for the export of Russian gas at a depth of 100 feet (about 30 m) are sanctioned. In addition, the draft law provides for sanctions against companies that conduct gas pipeline insurance.

Owners of companies and vehicles are offered to ban entry into the United States and freeze their assets.
