Vitrenko has been appointed to head Naftogaz instead of Kobolyev

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has appointed Yurii Vitrenko as the Head of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine instead of Andriy Kobolyev. The Supervisory Board of the company has been removed from office as well.

The decision has been made during a session of the general meeting of Naftogaz’s shareholders on Wednesday, April 28.

The Cabinet of Ministers cited the failure to fulfil Naftogaz’s 2020 financial plan as the reason for the dismissal of Kobolyev.

“In 2020, the net consolidated loss of the Naftogaz Group of Companies amounted to UAH 19 billion. The financial plan of the company approved by the Cabinet of Ministers provides for UAH 11.5 billion of profit. The corresponding financial plan was proposed by the management of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine in December 2019. According to the results of the session of the general meeting of shareholders, the work of the Supervisory Board and the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine in 2020 is found to be unsatisfactory,” the government explained.

On April 28, 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers terminated the powers of independent members of the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz, state representatives included to the Supervisory Board, as well as Chairman of the Board Andriy Kobolyev.

The independent members and the government representatives will continue to exercise their powers until the election and appointment of the new ones.

“It was also decided to elect and appoint Yurii Vitrenko as Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine from April 29, 2021…The new Head of the company was tasked with a systemic increase in Ukrainian gas production, as well as assistance in the formation of a full-fledged and fair gas market in Ukraine,” the Cabinet of Ministers said.

Deputy Minister Yurii Boiko was appointed acting Interim Minister of Energy.
