Belarus wants $70 million compensation for contaminated oil from Russia

Belarus expects a compensation for losses of about $70 million due to force majeure with contaminated Russian oil. This was stated by Ambassador of Belarus to the Russian Federation Vladimir Semashko, reports NefteRynok.

Minsk expects the same compensation from the Russian Federation as for Hungary, Poland and Germany.

According to the Ambassador, this issue was discussed by Presidents of Belarus and Russia Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin.

Semashko also said that Minsk can use another approach to calculating the amount of compensation.

“Another approach is possible: both plants worked half-heartedly, this is a loss of profit, we can calculate from here. Next week, Rybakov (Belneftekhim chairman Andrei Rybakov – ed.) should come and put forward these claims with extremely verified legal documents”, added Semashko.

Recall that in April, the Belarusian concern Belneftekhim reported a sharp deterioration in the quality of oil coming from Russia via Druzhba pipeline, which provides oil supplies to Belarusian refineries and its transit to Europe through Belarus, Poland and Ukraine.

Earlier it was reported that Druzhba main pipeline system in Belarus was completely cleaned of contaminated Russian oil. The possibility of installing an additional oil quality control unit at the border with the Russian Federation was also announced.
