Oil production in the United States will decrease to 7.44 million barrels per day

A report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the US Department of Energy says that the drop in shale oil production in the US in January 2021 compared to December will be 137 thousand barrels, Angi reports.

During this period, 7.438 million barrels per day will be produced. At the same time, the actual production of shale oil in December turned out to be higher than the values expected by the department in the previous forecast – 7.58 million bpd against the estimate of 7.51 million bpd.

The decrease in recovery is expected in six of the seven oil-bearing areas where hard-to-recover oil production is concentrated. The largest drop is forecasted for projects in the Permian Basin, where the average daily production of shale oil should decrease in January by 44 thousand barrels, to 4.2 million barrels per day.

A decrease in production compared to actual December data is also expected in the Bakken formation by 23 thousand barrels per day, up to 1.2 million bpd, in the Eagle Ford formation by 26 thousand barrels per day, up to 987 thousand barrels per day. Production in the Niobrara formation may fall by 23 thousand bpd up to 532 thousand bpd. The Anadarko formation is expected to decline by 20 thousand barrels per day, to 363 thousand bpd.

Shale oil production in the Haynesville formation is expected to continue (33,000 bpd), while in the Appalachians it will decline by 1,000 barrels to 130,000 barrels per day.

Earlier, the US Department of Energy lowered its forecast for daily oil production in the United States in 2020 to 11.34 million barrels (minus 0.44%) per day, the expected production volumes in 2021 did not change (11.1 million barrels per day).
