Norway accuses Russia and China of spying on its oil sector

A report from the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) says that Russia and China's intelligence services are collecting information about its oil sector, Angi reports.

“The PST believes intelligence is being collected in the Norwegian oil sector. Foreign intelligence targets include public and private companies, technology communities at universities and research institutes, Norwegian official agencies... Intelligence agencies of Russia, China, and other countries collect information about the Norwegian oil sector,” the report says.

The police are confident that people who work or are associated with the oil sector may try to recruit sources of information for intelligence services.

The PST also points out that part of the oil technology "can have the large-scale potential for military purposes, and can also partly be used in the development of renewable energy sources."

The Russian embassy responded by calling the report's findings "primitive propaganda," pointing out that "Norway, instead of demonizing Russia, might think about what can be done to cooperate."
