Coal production in Ukraine (January-July 2019)

For 7 months of 2019, 17 870 thousand tons of coal were mined in Ukraine, of which 2.131 thousand tons were mined by state enterprises, 15.739 thousand tons by private enterprises. The planned figure for this period was 18.576 thousand tons, so the implementation of the plan was 96.2%. The volume of production in the country decreased by 6.6% compared to the same period  the last year. Coal mining amounted to 2.525 thousand tons in July 2019, which is 4.5% less than last year.

Coal mining dynamics in 2019:

  • January – 2.613 thousand tons (plan implementation – 94.9%);
  • February – 2.487 thousand tons (99.1%);
  • March – 2.663 thousand tons (104.9%);
  • April – 2.439 thousand tons (98.9%);
  • May – 2.603 thousand tons (96.1%);
  • June – 2.533 thousand tons (92.3%);
  • July – 2.525 thousand tons (88.4%).

Dnipropetrovsk region remains the leader in coal mining, DTEK Pavlogradvuhillya PJSC mined 10.825 thousand tons of coal for 7 months of this year.  6.029 thousand tons were mined in Donetsk region (plan implementation – 97.6%), in Lviv region – 754 thousand tons (105.7%). Volyn Region is characterized by the worst mining figures, the mining volume of which amounted to 35 thousand tons (39.1% of the plan).

It should be noted that over 7 months in Ukraine 3.299 thousand tons of coking coal were mined (-8.9% compared to the previous year) and 14.571 thousand tons of thermal coal (-6.1%). The enterprises controlled by the Ministry of Energy mined 488 and 1.643 thousand tons of coking and thermal coal, respectively.
