The Ministry of Energy approves new monthly coal accumulation schedule

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine has approved a new monthly schedule for the accumulation of coal for thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants, the press service reports.

According to the new document, 3046.4 thousand tons of coal should be accumulated in the warehouses of thermal power plants and thermal power plants before the start of the heating season. This is more than twice the figure for the previous schedule, which established a coal accumulation plan at the level of 1409.1 thousand tons.

The decision of the Ministry to increase the planned indicators of coal accumulation was caused by the need to ensure stable electricity and heat supply during the autumn-winter period, as well as stable operation of the power system during test tests in an isolated mode in preparation for synchronization with ENTSO-E.

“We must make sure that our citizens are provided with light and warmth during the winter. For this, the power system must enter the heating season with sufficient coal reserves. In addition, thermal generation must ensure the stability of the power system during the test period in isolated mode. Successful passing of the tests will contribute to a positive decision on synchronization of the Ukrainian energy system with the European ENTSO-E system,” said First Deputy Energy Minister Yurii Vlasenko.

Recall that since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has increased its imports of coal by almost 14%.

As reported, the test operation of the power system in isolated mode is scheduled for the winter of 2022.
