The government allocated almost UAH 400 million to pay off wage arrears to miners

The government has allocated almost UAH 400 million to pay off wage arrears to Ukrainian miners. The corresponding decision was supported at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on July 14, the press service reports.

As Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted, a program for a fair transformation of coal regions is officially starting in Ukraine. Pilot projects will be implemented with the support of international partners in Chervonohrad and Myrnohrad.

“Fair transformation of coal regions is not about the closure of mines, but about the creation of new industries, new opportunities for business development, the formation of new infrastructure and social support programs. Besides, this is an improvement in the environment and part of a project to decarbonize our economy,” Shmygal emphasized.

The Prime Minister noted that in general, since the beginning of the year, the government has allocated more than UAH 2 billion to pay off miners' wage arrears.

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy reported that an irreducible coal stock and schedules for its accumulation will be determined for all enterprises of the fuel and energy complex.
