In 2018 Ukraine paid more than $3 billion for coal import

Ukraine increased the volumes of coal and anthracite (FEACN 2701) import by 8.1% compared to 2017.

Purchase volumes of coal and anthracite coal increased by 1 million 609,832 thousand tons – up to 21 million 387,573 thousand tons. The State Fiscal Service performs such data.

Ukraine paid for coal import $3 billion 35.349 million in 2018, 10.6% more than in 2017 (coal was purchased for $2 billion 744.062 million).

60% of all coal was imported from Russia - $1 billion 821.693 million. From the US – 29.89% from the total import volume ($907.173 million), from Canada – 5.36% ($162.546 million), the rest (4.74%) – from other countries – $143.937 million.

At the same time, last year Ukraine exported coal - 63.798 thousand tons of coal and anthracite were sold for $8.649 million. From the total volume coal was supplied to Russia - by $4.597 million, to Slovakia – by $3.201 million, to Moldova –  by $0.724 million, others countries – by $0.127 million.

As it was said, Ukraine planned to increase import of energy brans’ coal by 11.3% (573.9 thousand tons) compared to 2017 – up to 5 million 668.5 thousand tons. 4 million 881.5 thousand tons (+29.6% to 2017) was planned to import from Russia, 664 thousand tons (+47.7%) from the US, 123 thousand tons (-83.8%) from RSA.
