5 million tons of coal have already been brought to Russia from the uncontrolled Donbass. Part of the coal sold in the EU

For the whole conflict period, about 5 million tons of coal have already been brought from the uncontrolled territory of Donbass to Russia aimed for export into third countries.

Anton Honcharuk, “DTEK Energo” representative at the round table “Regeneration of Donbass. 2018 year’s results” meeting in Kyiv said.

According to his words, the figure is an approximate calculation of the company, which owns mines on the uncontrolled territory, but cannot manage them because of “L-DNR” actions.

Honcharuk reminded that 400-500 thousand tons per month are brought to Russia through uncontrolled border posts. Part of the coal is exported to other countries, the other one is spent in Russia.

Due to company’s representative data, for coal transportation Russia uses 2 ports: Rostov in the Sea of Azov and the port of Ust-Luga in the Baltic Sea, which began to be used for exporting Donbass coal from 2018.

Honcharuk also added that earlier the Russian authorities indicated that a certain amount of coal was imported from the territory of Ukraine. Its cost per ton was 20-40 dollars. Whereas the cost of Kuzbass coal is $100 per ton. Later, these data was no longer published in the public domain.

DTEK reported that they could not bring to responsibility companies from EU countries that bought coal mined on the territory of Donbass uncontrolled by the Ukrainian government, since there was no direct ban on the importation of goods from the uncontrolled Donbass. Sanctions analogical to those taken in relation to the annexed Crimea can solve the problem.

DTEK “Energo” noticed that the litigation had not brought any significant results yet.
