Australia received more than 50% of electricity from renewable energy sources for the first time

Australia’s mains electricity network operated on 50% renewable electricity for 10 minutes. It is reported by Ecotown.

Data on electricity sources on the national electricity market showed that renewable energy provided 50.2% of the electricity in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia – five states served by the market. Roof solar panels accounted for 23.7%, 15.7% for wind, 8.8% for large solar power plants and 1.9% for hydropower plants. However, even at that moment the share of coal stations in the generation is 48.5%.

The OpenNEM online tool showed that the record share of renewable energy lasted only 10 minutes. In general, during the day, the percentage of clean energy in the energy system of five states amounted to 31.2%.

Experts predict that soon a high proportion of renewable energy will be commonplace. The main role in this process is played by the massive installation of solar panels on the roofs and record investments in clean energy. Analysts say clean energy can provide 35% of Australia’s electricity needs in two years.

It was previously reported that Australia was investing $11.1 million in the construction of solar stations and storage systems on a tourist island.
