The EU will provide Ukraine with support in the development of renewable energy

In the framework of the Tenth IRENA Assembly, the Ukrainian delegation, led by Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection Oleksiy Orzhel, met with European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Europe recently adopted the Green deal and set an ambitious goal to become climate neutral. Therefore, now the EU pays special attention to the development of renewable energy sources. Ukraine, in turn, is also developing the concept of a “green” energy transition and plans to introduce a CO2 tax, the funds from which will be spent on energy-efficient measures, the ministry said.

“After negotiations on gas transit, Ukraine can focus on the energy of the future, the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The EU will provide its support”, said European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.

It should be noted that the Verkhovna Rada Committee supported the abolition of tax breaks for imported equipment for renewables.

Earlier it was reported that the Department of Renewable Energy and Alternative Fuels of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency reported that €20 billion are needed for investments in renewable energy sources of Ukraine.
