The European Union proposes to create an African "green" course

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has called for an African Green Deal, which, like the European Green Deal, she says will be the centrepiece of the continent's rebuilding. This was reported by Euractiv with reference to her speech at the EU-Africa Forum on Green Investments, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“Green transition is not just a necessity to combat climate change. This is the greatest economic opportunity of our time and can drive recovery in both Europe and Africa,” Von der Leyen said.

Renewable energy is now cheaper than most other energy sources and creates more jobs, she said, noting that with "the right investment," it can spur growth in African industries.

In addition, the head of the European Commission announced the joint work of the EU and the European Investment Bank (EIB), aimed at "covering the risk of green investment in Africa" with the help of private investors and African governments.

As reported, poor countries will receive from Germany 500 million euros to combat climate change.
