“Business competition between investors will reduce the cost of “clean” energy for consumers” – Serhiy Savchuk

The draft bill on the switching the country to the “green” auctions of December 5, 2018 No. 8449-d is actively being prepared for the second reading by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex with the participation of relevant ministries, the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and other stakeholders.

“If we want “clean” electricity to fell in price and consumers to pay less for it, we need to create a transparent competitive market through auction”, commented Serhiy Savchuk, the Head of  State Agency on Energy Efficiency, during an interview on one of the TV channels.

Thus, according to the draft bill, potential producers will compete for the right to install a SPP, wind farms or other object and sell “green” electricity.

The auction is won by the one who propose the best offer – low price. The state, in turn, will enable the investor to sell “clean” electricity at an auction price for 20 years.

As Serhiy Savchuk explained, this is a “win-win” situation for everyone:

- the society will receive cheap electricity from “clean” energy sources;

 - business  will be interested in working and developing “green” energy in Ukraine.

The draft law has already received the support of such authoritative international organizations as IRENA and the Energy Community.
