The world's largest solar power plant at sea was launched in the Maldives

On the Dhidhoofinolhu island, which is part of the Maldives, the world's largest solar power station located at sea was installed.

The energy produced by the installation called SolarSea is used for the needs of a five-star hotel located on the island.

SolarSea consists of 12 panels floating in the sea, protected from waves, storms and salt water. Thanks to the new power plant, production of solar energy on the island increased by 40% to 678 kWh. This is enough to power all guest villas during peak hours.

There are already solar production facilities on Dhidhoofinolhu – previously, solar panels were already installed on the roofs of the local resort.

Therewith, the main power source in the Maldives is still diesel generators. The world's largest offshore SPP will reduce diesel consumption at least to 260 thousand liters per year.

The owners of the island also intend to further increase the production of energy from the sun.
