Costa Rica produced 99.8% of electricity from renewables in 2020

According to preliminary data from specialists from the State Center for Energy Control of Costa Rica, electricity production from renewable sources reaches 99.78% in 2020, Ecotown reports.

Costa Rica has produced over 98% of its electricity from renewable sources for the sixth consecutive year. The rate of 99.78% will be the highest since 1986.

According to statistics, the main source of electricity in Costa Rica is hydropower – its share was 71.95%. Geothermal sources generated 14.90% of electricity, wind - 12.39%. Solar and biomass energy accounted for 0.54%.

“We confidently realize our goals - we are achieving a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and electrifying transport,” said Irene Cañas, President of the Institute of Electricity.

Las Vegas will create the first urban tunnel transport network for the rapid movement of Tesla electric vehicles.
