Three solar power plants with a total capacity of 393.7 MW to be built in Brazil

As a result of two auctions, the Canadian Solar Inc received contracts for the construction of three solar stations with a total capacity of 393.7 MW in the third quarter of 2019.

One project will be developed by a company in the state of Pernambuco (190.5 MW), another in the state of Ceara (76.2 MW).  One more station will be the continuation of the Lavras project, which is under development.

The construction is planned to begin in 2021, and commercial operation is planned in 2022.

Two solar power plants will produce about 598 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year, most of it will be supplied to the COPEL Energia network under a 15-year agreement.

Canadian Solar is also developing a 127 MW project in southeast Brazil.  It is expected that its operation will begin before January 2023.  After commissioning, the solar power plant will produce about 280 GWh of electricity per year.

The Brazilian Ministry of Energy expects, within the framework of the Plano Decenal de Expensão de Energia energy plan for 2027, an annual increase in the share of renewable energy sources (excluding hydropower) in the energy consumption structure by 3%.  Thus, by 2027 the share of renewable energy should be 28%.  To achieve this goal, the country pays particular attention to the expansion of the use of solar energy.

Earlier it was reported that 22 airports in Spain, as part of a plan to reduce carbon emissions and save electricity, would be equipped with solar stations.  By 2030, the airports of Barcelona and Madrid should become carbon neutral, they account for half of the harmful emissions.
