SPP the size of 3500 football fields has been built in Morocco

Solar power plant with a capacity of 560 MW has been built in Morocco.

The Noor-Ouarzazate complex has been built on the area of more than 3000 hectares and it is like 3500 football fields. It produces enough electricity for a city the size of Prague, or like two Marrakesh.

This complex is located at the entrance to the Sahara Desert, it saves the planet from more than 760000 tons of carbon emissions.

Morocco has one of the most ambitious energy goals of the world. The goal is to increase the RES capacities up to 42% by 2020. The country is on the right track to achieve its purpose and 35% of the energy is already renewable by virtue of such objects like Noor-Ouarzazate.

In contrast to usual solar panels, which deliver energy directly to the network, curved mirrors concentrate the radiation in heat pipes with liquid, which are fed to the power supply unit. The device holds energy for use at a later time, especially at night when demand is greater.

“Energy demand has doubled since 2010 and by 2030 we would like Morocco to become one of the first countries, where RES share will exceed the share of fossil energy”, said Yasir Badikh,a senior project manager.
